Assignment DescriptionFor this assignment we had to take portraits of two people in a studio setting and one-two non-studio setting, (so anywhere else...) I chose to take my non-studio pictures in the commons of our school because all the big windows give off some really nice natural lighting. I like the way that it . blurred the background a bit, it makes him, my friend sam, stand out more from the background

Assignment DescriptionFor this assignment I recreated or duplicated two advertisements for two different products. It was hard to find an ad for capri-suns surprisingly, I found a really old looking one and did my best to recreate it. I actually had a lot of fun doing this and for this ad I got to put my text into a 3D layer to get some cool effects. I think the 3D makes the whole thing look less flat. For the UGG advertisement, i took inspiration from several different ads because a lot of them contained images I couldn't reproduce/ would be very hard to reproduce. I wanted to just focus it on my pair of UGG's and not around other items this company makes and sells. I have a few pair of these boots, but I wear the gray ones everyday in the winter so it was a really easy ad to reproduce. References for duplicatesAssignment DescriptionHere are a collection of photos of some stilly/barely living flowers. It's winter, so It's really tough to take nature photos because of all the cruddy weather and snow. Things die and look less pretty in comparison of how they look in the spring, summer, and early fall. Nevertheless, I did manage to find some signs of life buried under the snow, and the colors really contrasted all the white surrounding the flowers.
Self portraitswith the help of my friend, I took some photos of myself in various locations and poses. I had Josie, take the actual photos but they were all staged and arranged by myself. I really like hoe some of these turned out. especially the second photo and the fifth one. I think the lighting is really cool and soft and isn't too blinding or overexposed/underexposed. Environmental PortraitsFor this assignment I went around the school to try and find some students in their electives doing some sort of cool work that we don't do in our core classes. I knew that the art students during my hour would be working on painting murals so I thought that would be a good example of someone in their environment. I also went to the orchestra room to get some shots of the symphonic orchestra during rehearsal, and I am satisfied with what I got.
Assignment DescriptionWe had to follow a photoshop tutorial/tutorials to make something interesting and cool using new tools that we haven't learned about yet. depending on the level of complexity, we wither had to do one time-consuming tutorial, or multiples of easier ones.
I chose a very complicated one, and I actually had to do it twice to get it to what I think is right, or what is right enough. There were actually some steps in this tutorial that were not compatible with the version of photoshop I use at school so some things are NOT exact. The premise of the tutorial I chose was to experiment with using smart object settings and filters. I had actually never heard of a smart object in photoshop, but it's a really useful tool and I would love to get more familiar with using it. I started with a stock image of a woman with a flower and cropped, copied, and pasted it into a custom RGB settings canvas. From there I used layers upon layers and groups upon groups to distort, recolor, and overlay the image on to itself. There were multiple layers of reds, blues, and greens, each one having a unique distortion. finally, I used layer masks to add more distortion on top of each colored layer and added a frame, in which I colored to be an ombre of some of the colors you see in the image. TUTORIAL FOUND ON: https://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/design-an-easily-editable-animated-rgb-glitch-effect-in-photoshop--cms-28884 For this photoshopping assignment we had to create two collages of ourselves being the main focus point/ subject. One collage was made up of our current interests, hobbies, and other things about ourselves. The second collage was centered around what we would be like in ten years, what we would like to be doing, future plans, etc.
Assignment DescriptionFor photo vii, I took pictures of y friend Josie, who was kind enough to let me borrow her REALLY nice canon camera. Using a SLR was a lot different from the point and shoots that we use in class, they are more complicated, and difficult to understand at first, but they produce really beautiful photos.
Assignment DescriptionFor this assignment I took some pictures of three of my cats. This proved to be difficult because cats are living creatures and naturally, they move a lot. I ended up taking well over 150 photos and probably less than half were usable for the end-result. For my best photo, I wanted to focus in on the side profile of my cat, she's very pretty and has really nice features. The black and white was a personal choice, I think it highlights the contrast between the fur on her that is black and what us a lighter brown.
Assignment DescriptionI had yet to do an open photo assignment yet and I was lacking inspiration for the other topics. Since it has been really cold and rainy here, I haven't had much motivation or desire to shoot photos outside so I decided to take them indoors in my chamber orchestra class. In photoshop, I made the violin that the person is holding more of a rich color to add depth. I made the violin look rustic by adjusting the levels slider, which also brought out the black shadows on the instrument. I blurred and cropped out a large majority of the background because it was distracting to the eye to look at. I also cropped out the hand so the focus was just on the violin. ReflectionI am very proud of this weeks photo. It excited me that I got to shoot an open assignment of one of best parts of my day- playing music. I would love to take some pictures of some band instruments for even more of a cool "portfolio" of pictures.
For this assignment I created two more multiple me edits like I did last trimester in photo I. This assignment is fairly simple but really fun to do. I decided to add one more person to mine to make it more complex and interesting. (I did 6 subjects instead of 5.) This is a really simple project and does not take much longer than a few minutes but the results are fun and cool to look at. For the chronomotion assignments, we had to take pictures of a subject doing some sort of fluid motion and repeat the same techniques of selecting and making layer masks like we did for the multiple me's. ReflectionI really like both of my multiple me's. If I were to do this one more time I'd add even more subjects and possibly some more dynamic poses or movements, (like jumping.) I enjoyed this much more the second time around because I am now really comfortable with creating layer masks and using the select tools. The chronomotion pictures were fairly easy to do but I would love to retry it with more dynamic movements. I had an idea to shoot some of my brother on his skateboard but unfortunately, he wasn't available when the sun was up. Chrono-motion |
